| This was a lot of fun to paint. I hope you enjoy it! Old rusty stuff is one of my favorite topics, and you can't go wrong with skeletons! |
| I don't want to put my paintings in your gallery. I'm tired of being told I should say this, paint a little more like this, or a little less like that. I don't want to be told how many paintings I should finish a year, or that they should all look the same so people will remember me. I am not a brand. My paintings are not a product line. I don't want to sell my paintings for thousands of dollars. I think that catering to the rich and the bored is a perversion of art. I think that everyone should own the art that they like. I couldn't tell you how many kids I've seen at street shows trying to sell paintings for $500.00 each. I'm sure some blow hard expert has told them they need to price high to be taken seriously. These alleged experts fear a world where they are not needed. They fear a world where good art is sold to people who work for a living at reasonable prices. They fear a world that recognizes that the guy who pumps your gas, or the girl who cuts your hair, might be painting work far more interesting than anything by the latest heroin addicted twit to dazzle the alleged art world. If you prefer the work of professionals, high end galleries and escort services are waiting to serve you. I don't want to be described in words ending with "ist", or "ism". I don't want to be in your club.I'm a painter. I'm influenced by things I like. My style is unique. I'm not a genius, groundbreaking, visionary,or any such thing. When I work hard and stay focused, I'm pretty good. I don't want to win your contest, get your votes, or be the most popular artist on your site. My paintings are not better than your paintings. I'm not more interesting than you are. I want you to like my paintings, and If you want a copy of something, I want to make it possible for you to have it without selling your car or canceling your cable. Although I've considered myself an artist since I was a little kid, I've been a serious adult painter since the late eighties. I've exhibited in odd little galleries, and occasionally, in nicer ones. I've dragged piles of paintings to more street shows than I can remember. At one point, I was the Vice President of a local time wasting and fundraising organization with the word "Arts" in their name. These days all my work is digital, and my old HP inkjet is very busy. |
